Behind the Scenes
Shooting a shoot..
I encountered an assignment through Flux that proved to be a challenge. I was asked to shoot the "making of" the Oregon Lineman Football Calendar. To prepare, I thought of the assignment as a sort of Top Model project. However, I really didn't know what to expect. I showed up at the venue, which happened to be Taylor's Bar next to campus. The photographer was there setting up. The lighting situation wasn't great, it is a bar. And there was only one strobe light, trained at the spot where the "model" would be leaning over a pool table. I found it difficult to set my camera and flash settings to capture enough light for the photo. The most difficult part was shooting my flash without disturbing the photographer's shoot. The bar set up was also a bit difficult to work with. I couldn't shoot from very many angles or directions. The attached photo is a typical shot I got out of that day, and it's clear to see the difficulties in lighting and capture the behind the scenes look. It was a great learning experience though and fun to experience it with the calendar crew.
