Laughing out loud

Blogging and blunders on the job

I'm new to blogging -- in every aspect. Before working on Flux, I'd never been asked to write a blog, nor had I read more than a handful of blogs. It's just not my thing. So I tackled the idea of blogging by writing about my general experience, which I'm not sure will be an interesting read for anyone. I myself was bored when rereading it. But I'm trying, not only because I'm required to, but because I need to learn sometime. The reason I dislike blogging is because I really don't think I have anything to say to others. That's why I'm a photographer, I rarely express myself through words. But by reading the blogs of other photographers, and other members of Flux, I'm learning the kind of content that works. Before deciding on what to write, I read Jarod's photo blog about the police officer. I really didn't know where it was taking me, but I read the last couple of lines and laughed out loud, sitting alone in my room. It was not only funny, I got to experience his photo shoot with him. As a photographer I usually go to my shoots alone, but it's interesting and fun to understand what other photographers, or writers get to experience when they go out for stories. It helps me with my job. I get to laugh at Jarod's experience, and I realize I'm not alone in making little blunders while out in a new environment.

Photo shoot blunders

I agree! It helps to know that we're not the only ones making mistakes and looking a bit foolish. It makes me feel a bit better about my own photo shoot blunders! For example: It reminds me of the studio shoot of Andiel Brown that you helped me with, in which I leaned for the table, hidden by the seamless white paper, and nearly fell to the floor on my face. I definitely missed the mark. Man, I looked so cool.

Thankfully it seems that some people find that endearing; perhaps that makes us more relatable for some subjects who are potentially feeling uncomfortable in a photo shoot situation, which can absolutely be intimidating.
