Pleasing Others
Working on a magazine means working well with people.
Until this experience with Flux, I had never worked much in groups. My internship doesn't require me to work with others. I am sent out on assignments alone, and come back with finished photos. Over the last five weeks, I've realized that working on a magazine is not just about the finished product, but more about the work, labor, and communication that goes into it. This magazine cannot come together without all of us and all that we bring to the table.
With all of the staff being students as well, it's difficult to coordinate schedules and balance priorities with other classes. It's also difficult to please everybody with your work. Because of the sheer number of people on staff, and the differing opinions and expertise, story groups have had to work together very closely to produce quality material that everyone is happy with. I've appreciated all of the feedback from the staff, and I continue to take in their opinions when producing my work. Without the ability to accept their comments and put them to use, I wouldn't be able to produce photos that work well in the magazine. I'm sure the next five weeks will prove to be challenging, but I think that at the end I'll have a much better understanding of what it takes to work in a large organization.
