Print vs. Online

I hate to admit it but technology aids storytelling in more ways than print can offer.
The initial illustration done for the ADHD story "One in twenty" was meant to demonstrate the chaos that goes on in one's mind. I personally do not have a serious case of ADHD so I called on those that do, I asked them to describe what goes on in their brain and they simply laughed. They said it's hard to say due to the two million plus things going on at a given time.
In the beginning, I compiled photos from a shoot to show how easily distracted people with ADHD can be. When I found out there wasn't any room in the magazine for the illustration I was pissed off. It wasn't the designers fault, it wasn't the editors fault, it happens and I accepted it. I realized that in print the illustration would have fallen short so I thought about what else we could do for the story online. Then I talked to my amazing designer Melissa Rezada about using Flash, we worked together on a flash piece that further illustrates the chaotic mind.
I thought about having multiple popping things with sounds and VOILA!
We've got sounds, dimming and brightening. We've got chaos. We've got ADHD.

Side note: I'd like to say how sad it makes me to think that print publications are getting picked off like flies, there will still be some out there but alas I need to get a grip and learn this whole internet journalism thing. yeesh
