Now, really stop and think about it. How would you feel if a stranger tells you about some of the most difficult times in his or her life? It's an amazing emotion. It reminds me of a photo documentary I did on alternative medicine here in Eugene, and one woman I photographed told me about why she needed the treatment: Her husband had broken her hand, torn the tendons, and it essentially left her crippled. To keep moving, and to keep seeking and wanting and never giving up? This woman has such internal strength. And I still feel a bit overwhelmed by her allowing me into her life, let alone with a camera and notepad. As journalists, we are so privileged that we can meet people and share their stories with the world. My worry is that I will never do it justice; but I suppose all I can do is strive for it.
